Lofty - as a new recruit - did we all look that young? No wonder we were all frightened out of our wits by the DI's - cos they looked so old! 1953 One DI one day asked whilst handing out our first 48 hour passes out - ' who is the one that lives at L.W.C. Long Sutton?' 'me Corporal' - he said 'did you used to chase the boys round doing cross-country running - on a bike?' me: 'yes Corporal' -Well said he - 'I was one of them lads - and you'll be as fit as me when I've finished with you'.
