Carmichael MFV 2 "Florian"
In 2009 Worcester (UK) based Amdac Carmichael Limited were awarded a 2.5 million pound contract by the UK Ministry of Defence to upgrade 10 x Carmichael MFV fire appliances - for specific use within the hot and dry climate of Afghanistan. The ten appliances which were designated as a" MFV 2 Florian" received new engines and gearboxes; enhanced engine cooling systems to withstand temperatures of up to +50C; new air filtration systems to deal with the fine desert sand - which was causing problems with the existing models; and additional clear light technology warning lights to the cab - to make them more visible in an emergency in the dusty conditions. The contract was officially completed in May 2011; but one of the ten trucks was destroyed by fire later that year; while being driven between RAF bases in the UK.
# I can confirm that the destroyed MFV2 Florian - is to be replaced in 2013 by one of the few remaining MFV appliances yet to be upgraded to MFV 2 specification. The donor appliance PB18AA was seen at Amdac Carmichael in April 2013.
