Birmingham Airport "Oshkosh Strikers"
In June 2012 Birmingham Airport Fire Service became the first British civil airport operator to place an order with the American Oshkosh Corporation in Wisconsin for the supply of 5 x "Striker" major airport crash tenders. The 5 x Oshkosh "Global" Striker 6x6 airport crash tenders commissioned in June 2013 consist of 2 x major foam tenders featuring roof mounted monitors (Fire 2 & 3) and a further 3 x examples (Fire 4,5 & 6) equipped with "Snozzle" high reach extendible boom technology. All tenders feature Deutz 697 bhp Euro 5 compliant diesel engines capable of 0-50mph in under 33 seconds; Oshkosh TAK-4 independent suspension; rear steering axles plus seating for a driver + 3 fire-fighters. All tenders carry 12,500 litres of water; 1,600 litres of foam plus 250 kgs of Monnex additional media and feature a 7,381 lpm Waterous pump. Fire 2 & 3 are fitted with 6,000 lpm Elkhart aspirated monitors on the roof: and 4,5 & 6 mounted on the bumper. High volume Elkhart 4,500 lpm monitors with “Hydrochem” nozzles are fitted to the three booms of the “Snozzles” and to the low attack monitors on Fire 2 and 3. The Strikers are finished in the airport operators eye-catching white over blue corporate livery.
