The Brymon Airways days

Plymouth Airport went from strength to strength when
New Zealander Bill Bryce based his new airline Brymon Airways at the city airport. Without doubt Bill put Plymouth on the aviation map; and built himself a highly successful business from his Plymouth base. Probably one of his biggest achievements was landing a De-Havilland Dash 7 in the derelict Royal Albert Dock in London - which went on to be developed in to London City Airport.

    Nice photo, I had quite a few flights in that Dash 7 on the Newquay / Heathrow route. A highlight of the trip was the landing/take off at Plymouth's short runway on the way down. Shame the Airport has closed. Do you know what has happened to the Fire Section vehicles at Plymouth?

    Pete the four remaining fire tenders and all the other airport vehicles are locked up in the sole remaining hangar at this time. In all fairness even though the AFS looked after their second-user fleet, the reality is that they are not worth a great deal financially. There is local action group that it trying to find a commercial airline prepared to use the site. In such difficult times I sadly believe that this is unlikely to happen.
    I think in the not to distant future the remaining assets of the airport including the fire-tenders will be sold off.
