Ascension RIV May 2011

The operational RIV at Ascension Island in May 2011 was RH27AA. Though not visible in the image the trucks roof is painted white revising a tradition seen on former DFS appliances that were operational on the island. The United States Air Force who provide the crash cover for the airfield are scaling down their cover with the demise of the space shuttle (the site being a diversion air-strip for the space craft). It is proposed that in the future crash cover will be jointly provided by the Defence Fire Service; and the operational RIV will be replaced or supplemented by a MFV.
The reserve RIV in May 2011 was RG97AA.

    The reserve RIV at Ascension is RG97AA which I photographed in 2009. However I can honestly say that in May 2011 it was looking very rough and in need of some TLC.

    RIV RH27AA now at RAF Gibraltar.
    Ascension fleet now consists of RIV RG95AA & MFV 82RN92 (as of Feb 2012).
